Kay Road Residence

On this infill site of a former disused garage, constrained by Victorian terraces, rear garden and the public highway, stands a self-build cross laminated timber house.The exposed timber structure features internally as the finish of walls & ceilings.

Externally wood fibre insulation is covered by anthracite grey rendered walls and black rubber roofs. Living spaces are located at 1st floor with the fully glazed wall of aluminium sliding doors to open onto a covererd terrace, giving panoramic views & filling the interior with natural light.

Five Oaks Lane Cemetery

Integrated landscape and architectural design to turn this 6 hectares of former brownfield into a Muslim cemetery. Dilapidated brick built storage buildings were demolished, redesigned & constructed to host male & female prayer halls, visitor wash facilities and funerary functions as well as staff administrative services. The buildings & landscape setting serve to address the specific needs of the local & wider community as a place of remembrance & contemplation.

Gardens of Peace Hall of Remembrance 

A Landscaped courtyard is central to the prayer hall& wash facilities offering a place for visitors to congregate before & after a burial ceremony. Sedum planted roof and extensive landscaping reconnects the building to the wider planting of the cemetery. The simple robust detailing and ecological materials were specially commended by ACE/RIBA Awards for Religious Architecture in 2011.

Ashtead Woods Road Residence

The shell of the former dilapidated 1950’s Bungalow was retained, extending to the rear and the roof raised to create a performance enhanced 4 bedroom family home. The proximity of the site to the nearby Rye Brook has informed the construction and materials as flooding is a common occurrence in the area. The methods employed minimise impact  on both the wider environment & species rich local ecological habitats enabling the owners to enjoy living in harmony with their surroundings.
